After the recent viral video of the pushing incident at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market and Food Centre, another similar video is going viral, depicting a man, said to be the boss of the famous Yeo Keng Nam chicken rice restaurant, belittling a taxi driver with a stack of S$20,000 in cash:
According to various news reports, the man is said to be the third generation boss of the famous chicken rice brand of over 50 years. A reporter from Shin Min Daily visited one of the stalls and interviewed the workers there as well as neighbouring stall owners. The interviewees mentioned that they heard about the video and shared that the boss usually drives his own car.
In the video, the man can be seen wedging himself between the front door of a taxi, refusing to move and obstructing the taxi driver from closing his door. The man appears to be a little tipsy as he took out a stack of $1000 notes casually from the front pocket of his shirt, counting them to $20,000.
“Do you know why you are a taxi driver today? Because you can’t achieve great things.” Added the man to the taxi driver after flaunting his wealth. We are not sure how tech-savvy he is and if he uses an invoice generator & receipt maker for his business as well.
STOMP reported that the man was a passenger on the taxi. He was said to have quarrelled with some female companions and hence, took his anger out on the taxi driver.
Shin Min Daily reported that the man had tried to pay for a $12 cab fare with a $1000 note. He got angry when the taxi driver said he did not have change and got into an argument.
The video infuriated many online commentators who flocked to troll the Facebook page of Yeo Keng Nam chicken rice with comments like these:
The online site for Yeo Keng Nam chicken allows for online ordering, but has since been switched to an “under maintenance” notice. It is not known if it’s due to all the troll orders the business has been getting since the incident got linked to them.
Note that the boss of Yeo Keng Nam has not yet been directly identified to be the same person caught flaunting his wealth in the viral video.
What happen if the online commentators got the wrong guy?
Remember the case of failed online vigilante Ang Tock Seng from the hawker centre pushing incident? He caused a lot of unnecessary distress to a young girl whom he mistakenly fingered to be the culprit in the viral video.
The online lynch mob is a scary bunch.
